INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE - do it naturally!

It is natural that students from international destinations visiting Cairns are excited about meeting like-minded, similar aged students from Australia. Due to the influx of student groups that Australia and indeed the far north Queensland region receive, we have developed a program with our key industry travel partners, that allows us to invite you to forward a request for us to arrange an exchange between your group, and an Australian school, here at Mungalli Falls. We are able to do this simply because so many of the local schools visit Mungalli Falls, and over a number of years, we have been fortunate enough to forge good working relationships with both public and private schools, whereby such a program is approved by the principal (on a case by case basis) and fits in to the curriculum of the local school.

What we suggest is that you contact us, (through your preferred agent), with your group size, for example, 50 grade 6 children from Japan, and they would like to do a full-day education based exchange program with a local school, with the same amount of children, in the same age group-

We then find the most suitable school, invite them to participate, and from there, design an itinerary. The most popular for a day exchange is as follows:

9:00am Arrive at Mungalli, welcome speech and morning tea
9:30am Meet your buddy for the day- This will be your future pen-pal and they will act like a buddy system similar to what they do in the schools, for the day. Spend time asking each other questions to get to know each other, then come back to the group (broken to smaller groups if required) and report back to the group about your new friends name, where he lives, his hobbies and his age. (First chance to use each others language whilst they assist each other!)
10:00am The Aussie Teacher(s) spend 45 minutes with the Japanese students, teaching them some basic English and simultaneously, the Japanese teacher(s) do the same thing with the Aussie kids! Weather dependant, this will be either indoors or outdoors, or a combination of both.
11:00am GROUP PHOTO (this will be electronic and produce and forwarded to both schools)
11:15am Bush walk together to the bottom of Mungalli Falls to the platform (split in to separate groups depending on the size) Here students will be accompanied by our Botanist staff! We also provide a translator so all benefit from the interesting, educational talk that we give on the rainforest eco-system
12:30pm LUNCH (menus are varied and available on application, but will be "all you can eat buffet" arrangements
13:30pm Afternoon of activities we suggest Photo Opportunity, "Treasure Hunt", "Orienteering", & "Team (raft) Building" Only in Raft-building, will the participants get wet, and they are all onsite activities. Activities listed here can easily be rotated for larger groups. Or for example, with the students "buddy" many small groups will be created all to do one activity.
16:00pm Students return to Waterfall Cafe for afternoon tea and farewell from staff
16:30pm Depart Mungalli Falls and farewell new friends (option of course to overnight at Mungalli for either local or international school)

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE DAILY (minimum 2 pax)

PARENT & CHILD WEEKENDS

From time to time we offer set programs for mother/father & son or mother/father and daughter weekends. The program is designed with emphasis on communication between parent and child but all set in an unintimidating environment with lots of things to keep everyone busy and bonding! Generally, Mungalli Falls advertises these weekends in advance through local newspapers. Bookings are essential.
